About Willow 🌳

Willow Sommer is a writer and poet based in Amsterdam, where she curates and hosts cultural events that explore the fluidity of identity. Her upbringing in the United States, alongside her studies in political science and environmental governance, has compelled her to interrogate and deconstruct the nationalist systems of state-sanctioned violence that were normalised around her. In both her writing and her life, she seeks to imagine alternatives. She is currently at work on a novel inspired by nightlife; in the meantime — like dancing — poetry has become a vital outlet through which to express difficult emotions and to weave meaning from the layered textures of experience.
